The fish, I am always”, so espouses the painter Hans-Joerg Fuerpass about himself, when he wants to answer the curious questions posed by the public, as to how the fish in him came about. The fish is a constant within his paintings and an expression of his identification and path as artist.
Fish make themselves visible on the water’s surface for only short moments at a time, before diving again to the dark depths. These improbable encounters, unleash to the observer (who is on shore) many images and feelings which empower the imagination. Moments in time-like soap bubbles-which will instantly pass. Indeed HJF extends the reality and captures these, for him deep moving moments, within his imagery and elongates thereby their existence. These can be fully erotic elements, daily little wonders, or also intimate wishes.
HJF is constantly in the search for symbols. “Primal-symbols” are confronted with elements of today, and placed in relationship to each other. As a result, a new language of imagery and symbols develops out of his inner soul.
